ABOUT OUR PRESENTER
Bill Kane – Director Of Safety, AVITUS GROUP
With 15 years of Occupational Safety experience, William (Bill) is a true safety professional. He has seen and experienced the challenges faced by organizations and safety professionals while working in petrochemical, manufacturing facilities, construction and various general industries as a Senior Safety Consultant and Trainer for Avitus Group safety services division.
Bill grew up in Southern Montana and at age 17, he joined the United States Army Reserves and served in Iraq and Afghanistan during the Global War on Terrorism. After completing his final tour in Afghanistan he spent time as a Drill Sergeant in Fort Sill Oklahoma and Fort Leonard Wood Missouri, where he was recognized as Drill Sergeant of the Cycle twice. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal and Expert Infantry Badge while serving during the Global War on Terrorism. He currently serves as the acting Command Sergeant Major for his Army Reserve Battalion.
After his time on active duty he accepted a position in as Operations Fleet Manager and Safety Director for an Oilfield Transportation company, where he learned the REAL meaning of hazardous duty. Bill then began working for Avitus Group as a Safety Consultant and Trainer. He was awarded the “Strengthen Award” for his passionate, highly organized, thorough and prompt approach to safety.
Bill implemented new and innovative approaches to safety for members over a vast regional area of operation. Bill is a certified Small Group Instructor, Total Army Instructor and Additional Duty Safety Officer in the Army. He is a certified OSHA Outreach Trainer in Construction and General Industry, and is an Instructor Trainer for Medic First Aid and American Safety and Health Institute CPR and First Aid courses. Bill believes that accidents and near misses CAN be avoided by developing a Safety Attitude and always being aware of YOUR surroundings. “Safety Starts with the Individual!” Bill is a member of the following professional organizations: American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) National Safety Council Board of Certified Safety Professionals
